THE FORUM.
Examination and Exploration, Momentum and Direction. A community of interdisciplinary innovative creative thinkers engaging in a dialogue between thinking and making.
The Greystone Project offers an environment for explorations of space, design and art – continuing to build upon the rich legacy of creative, intellectual and cultural experiences within the Bronzeville community. The Artist Salon at The Greystone Artist Apartments & Studios is an environment for interdisciplinary collaboration with Artist Salon members and Artist Residency recipients. The Artist Salon is comprised of local / visiting practitioners – architects, designers, visual artists and writers. Advanced Professional – Artist Salon Scholars engage Artist Residency recipients and provide creative dialogue nurtured through mentoring and critiques to refine and expand professional visions. The Artist Salon is designed as a cultural FORUM, a collaborative platform to lift the careers of the most promising and gifted creative practitioners in the first half of the 21st Century.
Artist Salon members are provided spatial resources to conduct exhibitions, lectures and seminars, open to the general public. Additional research and design resources include The Greystone Residence artistically handcrafted “roomscapes” with its comprehensive permanent exhibition Design Archive Collection (comprised of drawings, sketches, water color paintings, photographs and finish material collages) and a Slide Collection (comprised of African American Visual Artists, Period Interiors, Ancient Architecture & Decorative Arts-Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Illuminated Manuscripts and Artists Books), a gift from the Ryerson Slide Library at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The Artist Salon Program is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and public discourse in the fields of architecture, design, visual arts and literature.
